One of the things I would say I am passionate about is decorating with intention. I love designing a room to feel like home. I love spaces to feel fresh, bright, airy, and cozy. I also adore shelf styling and have built shelves in several of the rooms in our home. I find they are so fun decorate by layering in photos, books and sentimental pieces. I also adore gallery walls (for kind of the same reason lol). I love being able to mix and match my decor and include more than just photos.
I painted these wooden house shelves and added my homemade cloud and felt ball garlands above. The gold shelf was an amazing find and adds the perfect touch of glam to my little girl’s nursery. The eyelash prints are by me, and can be found here.
I’ve always loved minimilistic art paired with family photos, and for the longest time I’ve painted art for around our house. I love the simple wash of grey this painting brings to a busy shelf in our living room.
My son’s room has this really lovely spotted print, that actually looks very cacti-like now that I’m looking at this photo. I love it! (Also this quote is like all the mom feels!)
The living room gallery wall that I made last month (and seriously adore) houses some of my art as well: the pretty ‘wings’ painting at the top (that I turned on it’s side), and the letter ‘O’ at the bottom.
It’s super easy to mix and match paintings with a wall hanging to add texture, some wood accents for warmth (I love the cozy vibes they give), and I always includ some photos of my babies as well.
A tip for styling a piano similar to mine (meaning I have the biggest piano in the smallest of living rooms), is to decorate vertically. I’ve found that this has turned our piano into more of a statement piece and the frames on the wall draw the eye upwards, making it all feel much larger and open. I kept everything in the same colour tones so it would feel cohesive, and I love how it turned out.
Gallery walls and shelves are so fun to style and the easiest place to have fun decorating in your home. My friend Miriah and I have opened up a home decor shop on Etsy called Hazel & House. We both adore simple designs, minimal, yet warm decor, and love being able to decorate with affordable, quality goods. I share my simple watercolour paintings, perfect for mixing and matching throughout the home (and all are $10 or less #yasss), we will also be selling beautiful rustic wood slice stands, wooden coasters, Miriah’s gorgeous wall hangings, and some other pretty home decor pieces. Pop by our Instagram for sneak peeks at our products – we will be opening November 13th!
