diy gift guide: beautiful homemade gift ideas (that people will actually want)

I take gift giving quite seriously, I love shopping for personalized gifts, and I try to find things I really think the recipient would love.  I’m also a fan of mixing in purchased items with handmade gifts.  I think it’s a unique touch and I really enjoy making presents for people.

There are so many fun options too, it’s not just a ‘cookies in a jar’ sort of thing anymore!  I’ve shared some of my favourite gift ideas, all easy diy’s, and all so adorable & pretty that no one will know you made them!

These bowls are so pretty and completely customizable… this is something my sister would actually love.  How cute would a trio of hand painted bowls be, gifted along with some pretty jewellery and a beautiful, feminine scarf?

I really want to make this flannel scarf for myself actually – it’s so cute!  This little scarf would be adorable paired with a pretty coffee mug, some loose tea or coffee and a treat to nibble on.

Homemade beauty products are one of my favourite things to make.  I love handmade scrubs, facial masks and whipped lotions… one of my favourite blogs always has amazing skin care recipes, and this lavender cleansing grain recipe certainly doesn’t disappoint.  This would be such a fun gift to give, along with a pretty scented soy candle, some essential oils and a bathrobe.  Ahhh blissful spa night coming up…

Another beautiful lavender inspired diy gift is this homemade linen spray.  I love little things like this – they are incredibly easy to make but feel so luxurious and are a nice treat to have on hand.  This spray would be perfect paired with a beautiful, cozy throw.

These diy planters are so cute and fun!  I would love to receive something like this with a little succulent nestled inside.  Pairing one of these planters with some pretty tea towels and a bottle of wine would be an amazing gift.

I love how easy these little trinket boxes are to make, but they look so amazing you would never know it!  Jewellery would pair perfectly with one of these little boxes, something like a cute ring or bracelet and maybe a silk jewellery wrap (I know Chapter’s has gorgeous ones that I keep eyeballing).

My father in law loves spicy food and I’m planning on gifting him a little spicy treat basket full of different goodies.  If you know someone who loves spice, this is a great, personalized gift.  I’m including some different hot sauces that I’ve found, homemade spicy beans (I’m actually going to try out this recipe), homemade hot chili sauce and possibly some spicy salt rub.

There are tons of other great diy gift options too:

homemade soy candles
personalized tea towels (maybe with an old family recipe?)
homemade recipe box & some baked treats
homemade pillow & throw (I made an easy pillow out of a placemat!  Check that our here)
simple watercolour art in a frame with matting (I would say only if you know the person’s taste well and their home decor)
bubble bath or essential oil epsom salt soak

The possibilities are endless… what are some of your favourite diy gifts that you’ve received?  My sister once made a whole bunch of different face scrubs and masks for me for my birthday.  It was so fun trying them all out 🙂

Happy holidays! xx
